Men in Movement Groups
Men's roles and experience have changed immensely over the last 50 years, often bringing us stress and confusion. When I was a youth I could imagine 'rites of passage' for myself in society to become a man and feel good about it. I imagined that I could become a priest, politician, spy, footballer, rock musician, teacher etc. and those looked like valued and honourable roles to grow into. There was an unreal vision that adults (and especially those in some position) held some kind of moral authority and were fulfilled. We could believe in something even if it was a fantasy. Now this bubble has burst. And thank goodness, because no one really believes it and it is hurting us all.
But what can we put in its place? It is time for new masculinities, roles and experiences. Am I the man I would like my son to become or as a partner for my daughter? We, specifically men, need to look hard at ourselves. This is a delicate process and we have to support each other along the way.
I now have a new website for Men's work www.meninmovement.org

There is no 'one right model of masculinity'. These small groups provide a forum where men can freely explore their lives, relationships and experience, supporting each other to find individual and personal steps towards a more fulfilling life. Some topics include:
- listening without judgement, without trying to solve each other’s issues
- trusting and empowering each participant to explore their own masculinity and path
- engaging with each participant energetically, authentically and humbly
- using drama, gestalt, movement, voice, role play … as forms of expression and discovery
- working with ritual and rites of passage to help consolidate transformation
This is a draft page so I welcome your comments and questions.
I have plenty of articles (mine and others) if you want more information. I will be posting these on our Facebook Group
- our power, anger, violence, … our fear, sadness, weakness and vulnerability
- our relationships as sons, friends, lovers, husbands, fathers, … our hopes, loves and dreams
- managing stress, conflicts and emotions, and to communicate effectively
- men's health - taking care of ourselves, learning about our bodies, our development and ageing, our inner impulses and conflicts
- the roles and responsibilities we take on (work, status, sport, family, …), those that trap us and those that might liberate us
