Women's and Men's groups
A part of our heritage was to create and hold sacred spaces for the feminine and masculine energies. In many traditions this meant having separate tasks and functions often centred around the women’s house and the men’s house. These were places where the adolescent could go as they broke free from the parental home, finding mentors, engaging with the appropriate rites of passage, so as to safely grow into adulthood.
These spaces were also a refuge where men and women could find support in their personal process, especially where family relationships were breaking down.
Probably the most important role of these sacred spaces is that this is where the elders would retire to. In this place the elders ‘hold’ the stories of the community, the rites of passage, the ancient mysteries, the ceremonies and celebrations, births and deaths, places for healing the sick
